    Excel to web (Excel2003)

I have a question abouit converting excel to vb. I have downloaded the xlsgen program and was wondering what vb programs are available for me to use. My goal is to make my excelbook a standalone program. Is this what the xlsgen program and vb can do???

Xlsgen lets you create Excel workbooks without using Excel itself. As far as I know it doesn't convert existing Excel workbooks, and it doesn't produce a "standalone" application. I don't have any experience with xlsgen, though.

One cannot convert Excel to VB. Excel is built on the Visual Basic language as part of the Office suite. Consequently Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is available as an automation tool for all Excel users.

According to the xlsgen website,, xlsgen supports VB and VBA.

In Excel, your code is on the periphery and automates the application. In VB, you would start with a blank form and embed a worksheet control, assuming MS makes one available, and your code manipulates the control. The code may be quite similar, but lots of small changes probably are required.

Sometimes programs to convert office solutions to stand-alone programs will have the word "compiler" in their names. That might help with searching.
