    Remove KB951748

How do I remove the now infamous KB951748 that shuts down Internet connectivity? I did a system restore back to before I first installed the patch. Now I have a shield icon on my system tray saying there are updates to install, which I do not want to do. I now have automatic update set to only notify me when updates are available. I am using XP Pro SP2 with ZASS.

If you did a System Restore to a time before the update was installed it is already removed. Just because you are being notified that an update is available does not mean you have to install it.

On one of my computers there is a Shield on the Turn Off button and on another there is a Shield on the system try. I am concern that these update might be inadvertently installed. I would like to remove them.

Can you go to Windows Update, do a Custom scan, and then can you check 'do not show this update again'?

You can also click the shield in the System Tray to open the update window and then uncheck the updates you don't want and then proceed with the updates you do want. You will be prompted that the updates that are not checked will not be installed with an option to not be reminded about these updates in the future. Checking that box will make that update stop prompting you to be downloaded and installed, but could be inadvertently installed if you manually searched for and installed updates directly from Microsoft.
