Icon Problem (Icon Problem)

I have a special folder with favorite sites that I visit on a daily basis.

The problem I am having is 99& of the sites I visit have their own icon showing, but there are a few that no matter what I try to do they always wind up having that ugly blue "e"

I am even having this trouble with the icon for this site.

I cant even get the icon for these sites to show up in my original favorites.

This happens in IE7 only, but if I open those sites in Mozilla they show the sites icon.

This has never happened before I up graded to IE 7 and Sp3 for XP.

Is there a way to fix this problem?

I have tried Favorg 1.4 and it didn't work.

Is it possible that there is something wrong with my IE 7.

If so how would I repair it?

You could try AM-DeadLink - Download FavIcons and detect dead links in your browser bookmarks. Also, you can empty your temporary internet files in IE. NOTE: If you do this all the favicons will be deleted too.

Thanks Joe.

I downloaded the program you gave me the link to.

I ran it and it did not chang anything.

Also deleted my temp files and that did not help either..

The IE icon is just the default when IE can not find a favicon. So, I'd guess that the site does not conform to what IE is looking for. NOTE: I've got no idea if this is an IE or a site problem. My guess would be IE.

Is there a way to repair IE 7.

In the past, before IE 7 there was a repair option for IE.

Is there such a thing for it now with XP?

From How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer in Windows XP:

If you have Internet Explorer 7, you can repair damaged files or missing registration information in Internet Explorer 7. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Start Internet Explorer 7.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
4. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.

Did this site provide a FAVICON, if NOT then the site is NOT set up to use one?
A user can NOT add a favicon to a site!

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Icon Problem (Icon Problem)

Thats the confusion I am facing.

Why in IE and not in another browser.

Is it economical to lower the ability of IE to not pick up on a sites icon or is it just IE wanting their logo to have more exposure?

Re: Icon Problem (Icon Problem)

IE & Mozilla each use their own cache. If the IE cached is cleared your favicons for IE will be gone and will not be dowloaded until you visit the site again. See Favicon.com - custom icons for your website! for some FAQs on the subject. And see Favicon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for more formal information.
