Wallpaper - delete (home/sr2)

    Hi -

In In C:WINDOWSWebWallpaper I have 20 files. I do not use wallpaper. If I delete them, will I be doing any harm?

Similarly, if I delete .jpg images (I didn't realize they were saved from email downloads - I naively thought when deleting the email everything contained therein was deleted) am I causing harm?

    Thank you

    Acer

You must be in critical need of drive space, Acer! On my drive, in that same folder, I have 27 wallpaper images and their total size is 6 meg. Some of 'em are kinda pretty but I don't know of any "system" reason you can't delete them if you want to. If it were me, I'd move them to a "junk" location and then go in to display properties for wallpaper and see if you get any hiccups, before deleting them for good.

On the email question, I would think the answer is the same, but I'm guessing you must use Outlook because I don't have that situation with Thunderbird. Please wait and see what someone here says who is more sure than I am.

Just because I don't need them (as far as I know), to be tidy, and to speed up housekeeping chores (i.e., antivirus).

...I'm still with AOL...

Uh oh, I don't know nothin' 'bout no AOL, so you'd BETTER wait to see if anyone does. I don't know how many Loungers we have who use AOL, but I don't think it's very many.

About your response to Doc Watson, tidiness is wonderful, Acer, but you'd have to come up with GIGABYTES to make the load on your AV program (or other things) lighter and even then, I don't think YOU would be able to see the micro-seconds of difference. Have fun...

I agree with Al on this. And that is why I asked. I suspected it had to do with houskeeping and a hope to speed things up.

If you want to find out what will happen if you do, try Al's suggestion and move them to folder on your desktop or other convenient location. If there's no problems in a couple weeks, then dump them. Or move them off your system to external storage until you are certain they are not needed and removal doesn't cause problems.

As per Al & Doc, deleting a few files here & there during housekeeping is highly unlikely to make a difference. The main benefit from the removal of unnecessary files maybe in folders you access often, to make locating files you want simpler. You're more likely to gain (almost) noticeable benefit from an occasional disc reorg during your housekeeping.

You can remove Wallpapers 'officially' by going to the Control Panel, click "Add and Remove Program';, click tab "Add/Remove Windows Components', double-click 'Accessories and Utilities', double-click 'Accessories', deselect 'Desktop Wallpaper', then OK out. With this way you should be able to reinstall if you wish.
