Tick Boxes? (2000 SR1)

Hi,

I am using a table as a form template. Want to use Tick Boxes.
These can be used in normal forms which are locked & saved as DOTs.
But in my setup where the file is not locked, how can I use Tick Boxes??

Hi again,

You can insert a variety of ActiveX controls (similar to the ones that you can put into userforms aka 'custom dialog boxes) directly into your document (one of these being a checkbox).

To access these, go to View > Toolbars, and click to display the Control Toolbox.

These tend to be relatively finicky to work with, but they're definitely worth having a look at. Word's Help would probably be the first place to look for basic info on these - do a search in Help on "Control toolbox" or "ActiveX controls in forms".

When you say "locked" do you mean using Tools, Protect, then clicking on Forms?

When I want to use a tick box, I use the Forms toolbar and insert a check box, then I Protect the form.

There are a number of ways to insert a checkbox in Word. They vary in complexity and usefulness. The simplest is a static checkbox which can be inserted using Insert => Symbol. Dynamic ones (click on it and it toggles) are a bit more complex. You may want to take a look at the Checkbox Template downloadable from <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.addbalance.com/word/download/index.htm> my download page</A> (addbalance.com/word/download/). This is a tutorial and an "Add-In" that can make adding one kind of dynamic checkbox to your documents a lot easier.
