    Wireless Problems

    Hi,

I just installed a Wireless network at home and with my laptop it works beautifully. I'm running Vista.

My wife is using Windows XP, and she can log onto the wireless network, but it drops every 15 minutes or so. I really don't have a clue what to do, any help? I realize I need to give more info, but I'm not sure quite what you would need.

    Thanks

    Can you clarify 'drops'?

Does she need to reconnect, and if so how, or is there just a delay while it finds the connection again?
Are you using any security protocol? If so, what?
Are you using DHCP? - if so, how long is the lease (permission to connect) set to?

Is this a desktop or notebook? Also, is this after inactivity or screen saver activation or PC hibernation? Is the machine up-to-date with patches? What service pack level?

    Re: Wireless Problems

By dropping, I mean that she looses the connection and has to manually reconnect.

Security Protocol...ummm..Not quite sure what you mean as I'm not really a techie, but as far as I know, there is nothing. She has the correct passphrase and everything for the network and otherwise it works fine when it is connected.

DHCP.. Again, I'm sorry. I'm not sure what that is.

I know I'm not much help, and I'm probably a lost cause with my lack of knowledge on the matter. Though, I really appreciate you all trying to help.

    Re: Wireless Problems

Both our computers are notebooks with built in wireless capabilities.

Her computer disconnects every 15 mins or so when she is using it.

As far as her PC being up to date...this is my wife's PC, I try not to touch it for fear of her accusing me of messing up her machine. I'm not sure what she's got things set to.

Does she use her PC in a different location than you (i.e. further from the router or separated by ceiling, walls)? If so, what happens if she moves?

We use our PC's in the same room.
