Result on word in cell (2007)

Hi - I'm trying to come up with a formula that will give a result on cells containing a certain word. ie =if(a1,contains, "before",1," ") but not use how to incorporate the contains part.

    Any thoughts?

SEARCH(a, checks whether the expression a occurs in b; if so it returns a number (the position where a is found in , if not it returns #VALUE. SEARCH is not case-sensitive, its case-sensitive counterpart is FIND. So you can use a formula like this:

    =IF(ISERROR(SEARCH("before",A1)),"no","yes")
