    MyDrivers 3.31

Although not free, My Drivers 3.31 - Device Driver Backup and Restore Utilities has turned out to be a great little program. As shareware, you can download and try for free for 15 days, after that you must pay $39.00 USD.

The utility identifies all drivers fro every device on the system, will get updates and back them up in a remote location as .CAB files, .EXE installation file, or ALL drivers in one .EXE installation file.

I have found other utilities that are supposed to do similar thinigs, but not quite as good as this unitility. I am still in the evaluation phase - if this turns out to be as good as it has been so far, I guess I will be spending some <img src=/S/money.gif border=0 alt=money width=17 height=15> <img src=/S/exclamation.gif border=0 alt=exclamation width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/flee.gif border=0 alt=flee width=25 height=25>

On the same subject, I'd give a big thumbs down to Driver Magician. I tried it in both modes, when rebuilding my system. In "basic" mode, drivers couldn't be restored as advertised, so I tried the nifty sounding "auto-setup package (.EXE)". That failed too. Luckily I had other means to fall back on, but would have been in strife had I relied entirely on this flakey program.

    Re: MyDrivers 3.31

Thanks for the heads up, that was one of the programs I was looking at. Luckily, I tried My Drivers 3.31 first.

I have been tasked with setting up 12-15 identical computers for <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0> (er a non-profit organization). Since all the computers are identical and only 2-3 will have unique applications, I wanted to setup one machine and get all the device drivers for the other machines.

My Drivers is working out great so far. The best feature in MHO is NOT the .exe auto installer of all the drivers (useful), but the ability to automatically backup all the drivers at a emote location in.CAB files. The hardest part was getting the initial hard drive image for initial installations for unique EULA Product codes using XP Pro without having to do complete installs from the restore disks.

Has anyone had any experience with Driver Update Pro by xpc tools. Is it effective in keeping drivers updated?

    Re: MyDrivers 3.31

Hey Scott, how goes it? I just now got around to downloading a copy of MyDrivers but haven't installed it yet. Since it's been about 10 days and it sounded like YOUR project was a work-in-progress, I wanted to check in with you to see if you're still satisfied with the program. Ya know, this subject of "drivers" is one I'd bet most of us all too often ignore until we need to install or re-install something. I'm not too sure I'm wild about continual updating of drivers on the "ain't broke, don't fix" basis. But, and a big but it is (no joke intended) to be able to collect a nice, easy to access backup of ALL the current drivers on a system so that it's a one-shot dig when re-install time rolls around - now that should be a real blessing.

You said "remote location" and the web site says "...backed up to any folder..." so my question is: can you make a backup of ALL the drivers currently on a system and put the result on CD, DVD or an external USB hard drive? I don't care about that auto-exe thing, as CAB files or whatever would suit me just fine.

Anyway, how's the "water temperature" of your project?

    Re: MyDrivers 3.31

As of last Sunday, everything is still going great. Managed to complete two of the major projects before heading out of town to enjoy some "Vacation time".

There maybe other programs that are better and cheaper, but I am getting good results. As for "Remote" locations, I have a home network setup so I backup the computers to a common "File" subdirectory on the external hard drive (filesbackupcomputer_namedrivers).

    >> ...so my question is: can you make a backup of ALL the drivers currently on a system and put the result on CD, DVD or an external USB hard drive?<<

Simple answer is - YES. As a matter of fact, I have done a complete backup of my main computer to a DVD Disc which has the backed up drivers. Just check for the latest drivers before backup.

BTW-I agree with the philosophy, if it aint broke don't fix it. However, I also believe in the saying, An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I do not load new drivers for the sake of loading new drivers. But I like to have the latest ones available in case they are needed.

As a test, I individually re-loaded old drivers (that WON'T lockup the system) on a test system, re-booted, then re-loeaded from the backed up drivers. The test went great. New drivers re-installed with no problem.

Having the ability to an application collect all drivers on my system and backup to a common location is good tool in anyone's bag of tricks.

    Re: MyDrivers 3.31

And I'm not too sure I haven't been somewhat "burned" so far. I have been looking at this program for about a week and FOUR days ago decided to buy. Rapidly got my purchase confirmation email from the (apparent) third-party order taker - Emetrix. The name and registration code are NOT accepted by the program. I've written to Emetrix twice and they refer me to the program vendor (Tokyo?). I've now written to them twice also with no response.

    Re: MyDrivers 3.31

I'll post back, Fred, but it's the weekend and most of these folks don't answer emails over the weekend. I just wrote to the program vendor yesterday, so it may be awhile. I still have a week left on my trial, so we'll have to see. My confirmation email has this in the body:
    <hr>Company Name: None
    Name: Albert E Hoffman
    Email: bigaldoc@insightbb.com
    <snip>
Your registration code for My Drivers is:
XXXXXXXXXX (I concealed the number for this post)<hr>
The registration window says my "name and registration number don't match" so I've tried MY name, company name AND email name, all to no avail! And, I always use cut-and-paste for stuff like this when I can. I got in the habit of no period after my middle initial years ago when some web forms wouldn't accept it, but just for the heck of it, I tried this with and without a period. More later...

    Re: MyDrivers 3.31

I'm back. Unfortunately, my "resolution" to the problem was to eventually ask for a refund. I received an email a short time ago saying that they have canceled my order so I'll have to see if the charge ends up on my credit card. This may end up as a longer post than necessary for such a minor program, but here goes.

As I've already mentioned, I couldn't get the program to accept the user name and registration number for my purchase. It took SEVERAL emails to the order taker site AND the program vendor to finally get an answer from HunterSoft. Huntersoft sent me a link to re-download the software, a new username and registration code AND the instructions that I should first uninstall the copy I started with. Well, I followed their instructions to the letter, but when I got the new copy installed it wouldn't even open the register page. As you can see in the attachment, the register item was greyed out and, even though I had uninstalled as instructed, the software still said that I have 5 days left on my trial!

I removed it again and went manually to the registry and removed EVERY reference to MyDrivers that I could find, including MRUs. When I once more re-installed, nothing has changed. So, I'm one unhappy customer, dead set against this software and would NOT recommend it. I don't know where they're hiding that TRIAL counter, but it's still there, wherever it is.

    BigAL Hello,
Thanks for posting back with your information, and hope things "workout". Guess i won't be using MyDrivers 3.31 as well. Sent an "E" mail question and so far no response.
Well, i will continue to search for a "driver Program" Next on my list is "Driver Detective" i'll post back when i have more data to share. Regards Plain Fred
