Converting old Word documents to Word 2000

We are an attorney firm that has many templates/autotext files we use for forms, etc. and many of those templates were originally from Word 6 then converted along as we upgraded word to now we have Office 2000. The problem is we are having corruption issues that we believe are being caused by all the conversions. Is there a program out there that can strip the old Word Basic coding and leave the VB coding so that we don't have to redo all of our templates (probably around 200 templates/autotext files)? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Converting old Word documents to Word 2000

Word 2000 reads WordBasic coding from Word 6 and 7 documents, and converts it to usable VBA command equivalents. This conversion takes place when the document is opened, and is saved when the document is saved in Word 2000 format. It does not, however, interpret the coding and convert it to pure VBA code, so some commands do not get converted, and code may be slower to execute.

Long story short: If the macros are simple enough, there should be no immediate need for any redoing of the code to VBA, as Word 2000 will take care of that for you. However, if your macros are complicated, and/or you want to streamline them so that they work in the most efficient manner, you will someday want to convert the code to pure VBA.

Thank you for your response. We know they converted, and mostly they work, however they are beginning to have corruption problems and we assume that those are being caused from all the different conversions. We would like them to be stripped of the old code and be pure VBA. What we are hoping to avoid is having to completely redo them or modify each one individually. We were hoping there was a program out there that would do it in bulk so to speak.

If you can find a program that actually converts WordBasic to pure VBA, let me know, I'll buy a copy. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> Otherwise, you'll have to troubleshoot and convert as needed, which is job security in itself...

Take a look at the program Document Converter at www.khsd.com/dc.htm. I found it a couple of days ago wile looking for a converter of my old Word 6 for DOS documents, have not solved that problem yet.

I think the problem is less likely the code and more likely the aging internal file structures. How about recreating the templates as native Word 2000 templates and then importing the macros into them?
