    Re: USB SATA HD Connector

I've been using USB to IDE adapters to connect HDs to a USB port for almost 3 years. No reason to think that USB to SATA wouldn't work the same way.

    USB SATA HD Connector

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

I just saw an online ad for a USB Connector that will allow you to connect a SATA HD to a USB port. Cost is $7.95 - will this really work? It was from YUGSTER http://www.yugster.com/default.aspx Thanks for your input.

    Re: USB SATA HD Connector

I think it's called "eSATA" and has been talked about some here in The Lounge if you do a search, e.g. <post:=611,127>post 611,127</post:>.

    Re: USB SATA HD Connector

Hi Big Al, this is not an external HD enclosure - it is a simple USB plugin with a SATA connection. Please go to their site to take a look at it. http://www.yugster.com/default.aspx

You're right, sorry, different animal. I had NOT checked your ( Hans' <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> ) link and did my reading of your question a bit too rapidly.

    Re: USB SATA HD Connector

The only thing I would question about this setup is it's reliance on the USB port to power the HD. I've no experience with SATA drives, but the IDE adapters all have their own power cord for the HD.

    Re: USB SATA HD Connector

All except the one I bought.
It only had the data cable, USB to IDE but no power cable. I ended up making my own separate cable out of a male to female 4 pin power adapter. Cut it in half and wired a length of cable to duck into the rear of the box and in to a spare PS plug.
I questioned the supplier of the adapter about how the drive was going to run without power but all they offered was a refund!
Sorry I didn't keep the name of the supplier, to warn potential customers, but sadly I did not.
