    Mysterious dll (XP SP2)

A friend's computer comes up with an error message on bootup stating:

    Error loading C:WindowsSystem32qreuynat.dll

Stating that it couldn't find it. Well, I can't find it either. I did find one reference to it in the Registry and I deleted it, but the error message remains. So far it has been harmless, as everything else seems to work OK although I didn't try every program on the machine. I had a heck of a time getting rid of a flock of malware, virus's, etc. as someone had really loused up the machine. There must be some program calling for that dll, but I don't know how to find it.

See if you can find a reference to it in AutoRuns for Windows, a free utility that provides a *very* comprehensive overview of programs and processes that are loaded automatically.

Following on from Hans's suggestion, you might want to run any unfamiliar startup items through the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> Dependency Walker (depends.exe) - 610KB:

"Dependency Walker is very useful for troubleshooting system errors related to loading and executing modules. Dependency Walker detects many common application problems such as missing modules, invalid modules, import/export mismatches, circular dependency errors, mismatched machine types of modules, and module initialization failures."

Thanks to everyone. I'll give them a try next time I get the opportunity.
