Outlook 2007 Upgrade (From Outlook 2003)

Would I be better to run an upgrade or install a clean version of 2007 (especially Outlook) when upgrading from 2003?

This wasn't planned, however I *have* to do this for upcoming classes...

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Upgrading should be fine. Depending on the media you have, you may get the opportunity to have both versions at the same. NOTE: you may have only ONE version of OUTLOOK. If it was me, I'd bite the bullet and get rid of Office 2003.

    Edit:

I reran the install, and although it didn't show up, something must have been missing, 'cause now it seems to work...

    Joe:

OK, I ran the upgrade, and it all seemd to go fine, except:

When I run Word, if I try to exit using the Micorsoft Office Button, I keep getting a notice that macros aren't set correctly... didn't install macro language support -- and therefore won't exit. But if I right-click the title bar and choose Close, it closes fine.

I thought I had installed everything. Should I run a repair?

What kind of install did you do - normal or custom? If you did not do a custom install I'd recommend that you do a 'change' and look at the custom options.

    Joe:

When I did the (second) custom install, it seemed that everything was there, but, as noted, when I then did a repair, it must have picked up something.

    But, it's working now, so...

Any suggestions on the transition would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Chuck

    1.) Install Office 2007 SP-1.
2.) Be aware that the default file format for Word, Excel, PPT is XML. If you are going to be sending Office files to others and you don't know what version they have save in the 2003 format. You can change the default save format for each product.
3.) Play with the various products and get used to the Ribbon interface as quickly as possible.
    4.) Look at the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> Search Commands add-in from the Microsoft Office Labs.
5.) see Roberdan : Differences between the 2007 Office system and Office 2003 on MSDN.

    Thanks Joe.

Most of the changes aren't too dramatic, but the overall change is sort of like switching your favorite chair...it just takes some getting used to the new look and feel.

Thanks for the links...I'll use them both.

Microsoft has a whole slew of excellent FREE tutorials for Office 2007 online, and you may find it especially helpful in dealing with Outlook, which has some major improvements. Just look under Help for a given program, or go to Office.
