# Thread: Subtotal (professional 2003)

1. ## Subtotal (professional 2003)

I have a report that has needs be subtotaled based on filter sort. Please help. Example attached. I need a subtotal for each SOS CD. Like ECA and NBC.

So that in a report it would show each subtotal in dollars. It could also be on a seperate page.

Thanks,
Jimmy

If you sort the table on SOS CD, you can use Data | Subtotals to add subtotals. You can select the field to break on (SOS CD) and one or more fields to calculate subtotals for (presumably total_exp).
Or you can create a pivot table based on the data table: Data | Pivot Table and Pivot Chart Report.

I am not completely sure what you want the output to be.

You can use the subtotal routine (under DATA) to add subtotals to sorted list

You can use the SUBTOTAL function to get live stats about fitlered data

You can create a pivot table to put a summary list on another sheet (or the current sheet)

Could you elaborate?

You can do this with a pivot table
Select a cell in the data in Sheet1
Data - Pivot table and Chart report...
<Next><Next>
<Layout>
Drag <Sos_Cd> to the "row"
Drag <total-exp> to the "data" (should say "Sum of total_exp"
<OK><Finish>

You can change options and other layout if desired...

6. ## Re: Subtotal (professional 2003)

The attached workbook contains a worksheet showing subtotals, and a worksheet showing a pivot table.
If you click in the pivot table, and select Pivot Table | Show Pages from the Pivot Table toolbar, Excel will create a separate sheet for each value of SOS_CD.

Yes,

It worked. One more question. I am having trouble adding another tabe to either an exixting sheet or the same one.

Any clues ?
Jim

Do you mean a table with subtotals or a pivot table? And what exactly is the problem?
