Google Search

Can anyone tell me, that as great as Woody's Lounge is, why it's not mentioned when using Google Search?

I see other forums answers but never this one. I realize that search can be done on here, but if it was mentioned on Google, more people would use it.

Because the database can NOT be searched by these internet search engines. There are MANY boards that do NOT allow this type of action. They will eat up ones bandwidth real quick.

Huh? Askwoody is the first listing and the Lounge is the second when I search.

John, I think she means why Google does NOT come up with any of the threads listed. See TechGuy.org as a example. They are are always listed with a link to a thread.

Re: Google Search

Good question! It's caused by the software we use. When you look at the Lounge, you're not looking at a page that is stored somewhere on the server. The page is generated on the fly. On the one hand, this provides flexibility - you can specify in your display preferences how you want to look at threads - flat or threaded, how many posts to a page, etc. On the other hand, this means that Google cannot search the Lounge and hence cannot link to specific threads. You're correct that we would get more visitors if Google could link to threads.

I'm sure you're right. The question was kind of general, so my answer was more so.

Re: Google Search

I'll accept that explanation, I just wondered why when I do a search on Google, for instance,' why can't I open my mail,' the sites found never mention posts on Woody's.

Re: Google Search

I didn't mean searching for Woody's, I meant searching for other topics or subjects.

Re: Google Search

Now that's what I call an explicit explanation. It makes perfect sense and I understand. The only thing left to do is to spread the news about Woody's by word of mouth or the Internet which I do all of the time.

Thank you Hans.

Re: Google Search

I have many times in the past searched the lounge and not found exactly what I was looking for, so moved on to Google and searched on specific's such as how? why? etc.. I have seen many sites that claim to offer an answer, only if you register / pay xyz for membership / download trial etc, only to still not find the answer!

It is a shame that as Duchess says, The lounge threads are not listed on Google searches. I understand Hans explanation but was wondering if this is an option for the future??

The Lounge was recommended to me by a course tutor, I wonder if I would ever have found this place if it had not been?!? Other than recommendation, how do folk find us?

Nathan,
>>>Other than recommendation, how do folk find us?

Googling "Woody's Lounge" shows the first three hits are for this Lounge. Two of three are askwoody.com and the other is a direct link here.

Further down are links to Woody's bar in NJ or Woody's Lounge in Odessa, Texas. Depends if you want answers or a quick drink.

Re: Google Search

Hi Bob,

>>>Other than recommendation, how do folk find us?

Sorry, the point i was making was: Those who are looking for the (excellent) help and support that Woody's Lounge has to offer, but have no knowledge of Woody's Lounge itself, how would they find us? As i said, I found the Lounge through recommendation / word of mouth, though had that not been the case, would I have ever found this place? If I did not know to type 'Woody's lounge' into Google, but was looking for help with Office or Windows or Security, would Google have ever pointed me here?

Disregarding 'Woody's Lounge' in a Google search, it would appear to be quite difficult to 'fall upon' this place.

For example: If I search Google and fail to find what I am looking for on the first page (or 2 max), then I would refine my search. A recent Google for: Windows help / Office help / Computer security help, brought up no references to The Lounge in the first two pages of either search. There seems to be little online advertisement??

Dave, you hit the nail right on its head, that's exactly what I was trying to explain. Sorry if my question was too general to be understood clearly.

Re: Google Search

The way I found Woody's Lounge was references to it in Woody's books that I purchased for my library. I was a happy camper to see all the information that people gave so freely to anyone who asked! It is an "oasis in a desert"!
