Data Link Properties Box (2003)

I am trying to do a mail merge in Word 2003. When I click to pick my data source, I get a dialog boxes titled Data Link Properties. It has a Provider tab, Connection tab and 2 others but never lets me get to my data source. This is a different computer than I usually work on. How to I make it so that box doesn't come up so I can get to my data source? The main document (word) and the data source (excel ) are new documents never used in a merge before. Thanks.

When you get to Step 3 of the Mail Merge Wizard (= task pane), click Browse...
You should see the Select Data Source dialog, and it should open to the My Data Sources folder.
Do *not* select any of the options here, but click the dropdown arrow to the right of My Data Sources and navigate to the location of your Excel workbook.
You can also click My Documents or another link in the Places Bar on the left.

When I click on browse I navigated to the desktop where my excel spradsheet/data source is. When I click to open the data source is when I get the data link property box.

Try this:
- Quit Word.
- Select Start | Run... in Windows.
- Type
regsvr32 msexcl40.dll

- Press Enter or click OK.
- Start Word again and try the mail merge.
