    Movie Maker

I recently used for the first time my digital camera to take video clips. Inexperienced, I rotated the camera from landscape to portrait orientation, and now need to edit the clips; also want to consolidate them in a single collection to burn a DVD.
    My H/W:
MB: Asus M2NVP, which I believe is a highly oriented video / audio mobo.
    uP: Athlon 64, 3200GHz +
    RAM: 2 GB.

    OS: XP Professional.

I am having problems with Movie Maker. It crushes VERY often. Besides that, I cannot change the default clip duration (30 seconds).
I believe that my needs for this editing are rather modest: splitting a clip, rotating effect, some transition effects and merging different clips.
I need advice on a (really) simple, not complex movie editing S/W that could do my job.
Looking in the web, I find Cadillacs (Avid, Pinnacle, Sony), while what I would like is to migrate from the Volkswagen Beetle I have to a (decent) Buick.
    Any advice / suggestion?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello Daniel. I have no experience with Movie Maker but since you've asked about third-party products, I think it's best that your post be moved to the Software Forum and I'll do that now. Wish I could advise you.

    Hi Daniel,

The bad news is that Movie Maker does crash a lot. So you have to "save eraly, save often" with it.

When you import your video, there is a check box that asks you to import the video in small clips. It is on by default (goodness knows why).

Sorry I cant remember the exact wording (I'm not at my own machine).

    Hi Johanna;

Thanks for your reply and confirmation that MM crashing is not due to something related to my HW or SW.
I want ot migrate (flee?), out of it.
I find it too unreliable and hostile.
    Thanks again.

I can't tell whether you have a question about rotating your video. If so, check this thread: software for editing ..avi file.

thanks very much to all, for your valuable assistance.
downloaded vdub, and am trying it.
seems good for rotating, but couldn't get other effects (transitions, splitting and merging).
