    Check Disk (Vista)

    Dear Loungers,

On Windows XP, after I would run a “Checkdisk” (formerly “Scandisk”), I would view the results by following the following steps:

    - Go to Start/Run and typing “eventvwr.”
    - Once I get the Event Viewer open, I click on Application in the left pane and look for winlogon in the Source column of the right pane and then double click that entry.

I followed these steps on Windows Vista, but now, I get SO MANY events under the Event Viewer window, that I can’t figure out what’s what. On some days, I get a couple of events happening per second. Does anyone who has Vista experience this issue?

Even if I limit my search to those files labeled “Winlogin,” I get several on a given day.

Does anyone know how to identify which one is the one that contains the results from my checkdisk? There are only two that show up at around the time my checkdisk should have been completed, and they only state the following, respectively:

“The winlogon notification subscriber <SessionEnv> was unavailable to handle a notification event.”

    “Windows license validated.”

Neither of which is very helpful and neither of which gives me the details that the checkdisk on XP used to give me. I assume these aren’t what I needed.

Thanks in advance for any help/ideas you may have.

    Regards,

    JMT

When you see these events in Eventvwr, each one has a source and an Event ID (which is a short number).
You can go to a site such as http://www.eventid.net to look up the meaning of these.

I think you'll find what you seek as in the attachment.

    Dear Al,

Yes! That's it! So in Windows Vista, I'm not looking for that which falls under "winlogon," but rather, that which falls under "Wininit"?
