    List out Visio Objects from Word (MS Word 2003 (SP3))

    Hello,

    I have two quick graphic related questions - in connection with MS Word.

    1. I have several documents where the figures in each document are actually Visio files that were imported into each document as a Visio object.
    Is there a way to generate a running list of all the visio file names? Note: If I select one of the Visio files and press ALT F9, I see the same name for
    all of the Visio drawings (objects): { EMBED Visio Drawing.11 }

    2. I have some foldout style drawings (or sheets) in .EMF format that have been placed inside of text boxes.
    Is there a way to generate a running list of all of these .EMF graphic file names? Note, if I select of these graphics from inside a text box and
    press ALT - F9, I see see the same name forall of the .EMF graphics, that are inside of text boxes: { SHAPE *MERGEFORMAT }

    Thanks in advance for answering my question.

    Regards,

    James

    If the files have been embedded, I don't think the original file names have been preserved.

    You sometimes can retrieve the information manually from the file metadata. If you open the file using the "Recover Text from Any File (*.*)" file type in the Open File dialog, and search around in the text, you often find file names for embedded objects. This information is not available to VBA. Don't forget to change the File Type drop-down back to Word documents, or you may have an unnecessary scare the next time you open a file.

    Hello jscher2000,

    Thanks for posting that suggestion. I have never noticed that "Recover Text from Any File" file type before and yes it does provide a unique way of viewing the document.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Regards,

    James
