Help with formulas please (MS Excel 2000 (9.0.2720

I have a worksheet (please see attached) to record income and expenditure. I need help with two items please.

    1. When adding a transaction how can I have the date in cell A32 update automatically when the date of the transaction is entered in cell A26?

    2. Can column E, the running balance, be calculated by (a) formula(s) that account(s) for the amounts in and the amounts out?

Your assistance will be much appreciated.

Not sure exactly what you want.

    1) In A32 you can enter:
    =MAX(A2:A31)

    2) In E3:
    =E2+C3-D3
Copy E3 and paste to e4:e:26

    Malcolm:

I agree with all that Steve suggests.

But be warned that when using a running total try to avoid inserting or deleting rows within the range since this will cause problems with the formulas.

If that is an issue you can use:
    =$E$2+SUM($C$2:C3)-SUM($D$23)

But if you insert, you will have to copy the formula (thought the ones that have it will be accurate).

Re: Help with formulas please (MS Excel 2000 (9.0.

    Steve and Tom D,

Thank you both for your responses to my request. I have exactly what I need particularly Steve for the extended formula for the running balance. When and if I have to insert a transaction Tom I do realise that the formula needs to be entered in column E and as in other worksheets I use I can do this by dragging the cell contents down.

Thank you both again for your guidance.

    Malcolm
