    Copying PST file (2003)

    Dear Loungers,

I recently copied my Outlook.pst file to a new computer. It copied over EVERYTHING identically, even the messages marked unread and follow up.

However, I created a folder called "Saved Emails," which I manually copied several important emails into. Although "Saved Emails" copied over with my PST folder, the contents did not. The folders within "Saved Emails" came along, as did a couple of emails, but the majority of the hundres of emails did not come through. Is this abnormal? If it is normal, do I have to manually copy all of these emails to my new computer?

    Regards,

    JMT

If you copy a .pst file, EVERYTHING from the original file should be in the copy too.
Check the view that is active on the Saved Emails folder - does it filter the messages in any way, for example showing unread e-mails only?

Select View | Arrange By | Current View.
The "active" view will have a check mark in the submenu.
You can modify the settings for the current view in View | Arrange By | Current View | Customize Current View...

"Messages" is checked under the current view and the filter is turned off.

    Any other possible suggestions?

How did you get the e-mails from your old PST file into your new PST file?

    Re: Copying PST file (2003)

I mounted an image of my old laptop through Acronis and copied the PST file.

I just realized what the problem was: my new computer was archiving the items in the saved email folders; the old was not. This accounts for why th emails were in the Outlook.pst of the old computer and not the new computer.

Seems as though you've got it worked out. Remember, if you want to use auto-archive you can have individual atuo-archive settings for each Outlook folder.
