deriving the number of hours (xp & 2003)

I am formating time started ( 8:00 AM)in col A and time ended (5:00 PM) in col B. I would like to get the Number of hours between the beginning and ending time in col D.
What is the formula and formating for col D?

    Could this be accomplished?

    Hi there

If you are using times within the same 24 hour period

    =B1-A1

    Format D1 to be [h]:mm
