Change all web links to be 'unvisited' (Fx 3)

I have a web-page consisting of a very large number of links, which I visit on a roughly monthly basis to check that the links are still valid.

After I click on each link, it goes purple - visited - then will revert to the normal 'unvisited' blue after about 30 days.

Is there any way I can force all the links to show as blue, unvisited, at any arbitrary time before the 30 days (or however long) is up?

In FF2, it is simply a matter of clearing the browser history - does that not work in FF3?

And am I right that
Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> History -> Keep my history for at least nn days
(original default apparently 90) is also implicated in this feature?

Yes, but I'm not sure that this is relevant! It is on a 'real' website. It could be any web page, in fact.

You are right, it could be, but in your original post you stated, "I have a web-page..."

If you have control over the web page, you may be able to decide how visited links are shown. Do you want the link not to change colour at all, or reset after a smaller-than-the-keep-history number of days, or....?

I think I'm getting out of my depth here!

Surely the colour of the links (visited/non-visited) in a webpage is dependent somehow upon one's browser settings, and has nothing (much?) to do with the actual webpage itself? In any event, I want these settings to apply only to me, and not to any other visitor to the webpage!

The ownership of the webpage really is irrelevant - it just happens to be one I maintain, for a website I do not control, but whose owner uploads the updated web page for me roughly monthly. The same question could relate to any arbitrary webpage at all which has links therein!

It can be the page code and/or it can be your browser settings. In theory, you could set cookies so that you and you alone are recognised as having a specific style sheet, for example, which gives you the 'skin' you want.

But if you are wanting a personal yet universal solution, I think clearing your browser history is your only option.

This is controlled by your browser and the history on that system. It has NOTHING to do with the webpage settings, while viewing the webpage in question the temp files and history will determine if the link is displayed as visited or non-visited. This is going to be the same in every browser and how and where the history and the trmp files are stored. When the history is deleted for that link then it will display as non-read.

It is possible to code a page so that visited and non-visited links appear the same colour, but I suspect John wants them to show as being visited temporarily, just not for 30 days or so.

To restore the links on a particular web page to their 'unvisited' state, you'd have to
- Select History | Show All History...
- Select all items that you visited from that particular web page (you can use click, Shift+click and Ctrl+click to select multiple items). This could be tedious!
- Press Delete.
- Refresh the web page.
Clearing all history is probably more attractive!

Are you looking for a solution for just this web page, or for all?
Are you wanting links not to change colour after you have visited them immediately, or after a predetermined (shorter) period?

This extension might allow you to clear cached files for a single site: CacheViewer @ Firefox Add-ons. One review complains you have to delete the pages one by one, but perhaps it's worth a try.
