    Calculating Average in Pivot Table (2003)

    I have a set of department budgets in Excel. I'd like to be able to calculate the average of salaries relative to one particular department AND I'd like to be able to calculate for example that same salary relative to an overall budget. I have attached a sample spreadsheet.

    Can someone help?

    You have attached a "plain" table.
    In a real pivot table, click anywhere in the data area, then select Pivot Table | Field Settings... from the Pivot Table toolbar.
    Click Options>>
    This adds the options you need - you can select "% of" etc.
