    Can't delete file (Home Premium)

I recently downloaded and installed an HP printer update. I put the install file on the desktop. When I try to delete I get an error message saying I need permission to delete. However, I'm logged in as system administrator, so where do I get the necessary permission?

    Chuck.
Under Vista the real administrator account is disabled after installation.
You can enable it again by going to
''CONTROL PANEL-ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS-COMPUTER MANAGEMENT-LOCAL USERS AND GROUPS-USERS- ADMINISTRATOR.''You will need to reboot for it to take affect.
I would disable it after deleting as you can do some serious damage with this account as I found out .

"Local Users and Groups" Is not available with any of the HOME versions of Vista. Try right clicking the file, select Properties | Security | Advanced | Owner. If your user account is not the owner try to take ownership. Once you own the file you should be able to set any permissions you need.

Re: Can't delete file (Home Premium)

Imagine my surprise! I opened Woody's Lounge to ask for help in deleting an empty folder from my Desktop and found this subject on top! I also need help. I created a folder yesterday, moved the contents of the folder elsewhere on my Vista Home Premium computer and have been trying to delete the empty folder from my Desktop ever since. When I request the Delete, I get the window you see in my attachment.

The folder is empty. I am listed as the owner [I am also the Administrator]. I can't delete it or move it and it is really beginning to irritate me! Any suggestions?

Several Loungers have reported that they've successfully used the free utility Unlocker to get rid of files or folders that Windows refuses to delete. It's compatible with Windows Vista.

    THANK YOU!!!
You have helped maintain my sanity one more time, Hans. Unlocker worked like a charm. I felt as if I were caught in a time warp. Thanks again.
