how not to replicate archive folders (outlook 2007)

    Hi
My boss has a *lot* of archive folders. What I want is a way that the archive files/emails will only appear on his desktop machine, and the laptop will only show emails currently in the inbox.
Is there a way to do this?

    Cheers

    Is this on Microsoft Exchange?

    Yes.
I think thats the problem. When he opens outlook on his laptop it takes ages to come up, due to the fact that it has to download/synchronise so many folders.

Let him create a new Outlook data file on his desktop PC (File | New | Outlook Data File), and move all archive folders to this new data file. They will be available when he uses his desktop, but not when he uses his laptop.

I'm presuming that since this is Exchange server and the archived e-mails show up in his mailbox that they are not archived in the Outlook sense. That this is a manual process. So, on the desktop you could have his archived e-mail is actually be archived to a PST file. See Use AutoArchive to back up or delete items - Outlook - Microsoft Office Online. Then, setup his notebook so it never uses Autoarchive.
