    Alphanumeric Serial numbers (Excel 2003)

I'm looking for a formula for calcuating the number of possible combinations in a serial number of "x" number of digits using an "x" base number. For example, if I have a 6 digit serial number using base 36 (all numbers, all letters), how many serial number combinations will that give me ?

    Thanks,
    - BOB -

Re: Alphanumeric Serial numbers (Excel 2003)

If repetitions of digits are allowed (i.e. 121341), the number of serial numbers of n digits in base m is m^n (m to the power n).
If the base is in cell A1, and the number of digits in A2, the formula =A1^A2 will return the number of serial numbers.
