Recent patch removes Reviewing toolbar? (Word XP)

    Hi everyone,

Before I call my the absolutely useless Help Desk here at my company, I'm wondering if anyone can confirm/deny something we're experiencing here. Many of us have noticed that if we exit Word with the Reviewing toolbar showing, the next time we start Word (as long as we're starting Word generically, i.e. not opening a document by double-clicking) the toolbar is removed from the screen. It's there for a second or two, and then it disappears and has to be turned on again. This only started happening very recently.

I'm not sure if this is something my company has done to us (deliberately or not) or if it's a result of a patch from Microsoft (my company has recently installed several patches from Microsoft).

    Thanks,

    Beej

I have Word 2002 (aka XP) with the latest updates (including those for August 2008). The Reviewing toolbar remains visible after quitting and restarting Word (if it was visible before quitting). So I don't think it's a recent update.

Whenever toolbars and menus behave strangely, I immediately suspect PDFMaker.dot. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> If you have that one, try moving it out of the Startup folder and load it on demand instead.
