Re: Date Error in Excel2000SR1 Win NT(patch6)

Where did these dates come from? Where they entered into the cells by typing? If so, what was entered? Did they come from the Date() finction? Where they entered using Ctrl+;? What is the system date set to?

Re: Date Error in Excel2000SR1 Win NT(patch6)

The year dates are from the Excel data - i..e 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000. When the dates appear on the X axis all dates are "1999". The system date is correct if you are referring to the date as displayed on the status bar. On the axis, the date format was entered as Custom "yyyy".

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you mean by "Excel data." Is this data that was typed into cells? If so, are you sure that the date that was typed in is being converted to an Excel date and is not being treated as text?

One thing that you might want to check. Go to the Control Panel and double click on "Regional Settings." Make sure that the correct region is selected.

    Year 1900 Err in Excel2000SR1 (OSWin NT-6)

Edited by P McGinty on 24-Aug-01 07:44.
We upgraded to Office2000. This evening I had a class re demonstrate how to create Charts from Excel Data. All of the dates on the X axis read 1900.
I know that this was a bug in Excel 97 but was fixed with one of the various patches. Is this another year/date bug in Excel2000 or is there a workaround?

Re: Date Error in Excel2000SR1 Win NT(patch6)

Thanks for response, Legare. Re (1) Data is typed in an Excel Spreadsheet: i.e. 2 cols - 1997 through 2000 and opposite each year there is an amount which is treated as $ amounts with no decimal points; and re (2) re Control Panel and Date: We are Win NT for 900 users: the date and time for all pcs on servers is correct - I guess this could differ for a users hard drive but since it happened on all training room pcs I'm thinking this is Excel-related?? TIA

Re: Year 1900 Err in Excel2000SR1 (OSWin NT-6)

Format the axis to general, otherwise XL thinks it should interpret the number in the cell (e.g. 1999) to be a dateserial number, which equals June 21, 1905.

Another cause could be, that XL thinks there is text in the cells, rather than numbers. Format them as general and edit/enter each entry.

Re: Date Error in Excel2000SR1 Win NT(patch6)

Are you typing in just the year, and then plotting that as a date. If so, the number 2000, interpreted as a date would be June 22, 1905. You would have to enter 1/1/2000 for it to be interpreted as a date.

Another possibility is that the cells contain text, not a number or a date. If a cell containing text was used as a date, it should come up as 12/31/1899.

If none of these help, could you post a workbook that shows the problem?

Thanks everyone - I did check the format of the year column and it is formatted as general. Dates are typed in 1998, 1999, etc. And the $value is in the next col. Will have another go at the charts tomorrow and if no joy will post the excel spreadsheet. TIA

Re: Date Error in Excel2000SR1 - RESOLVED

Yep. I had previously just checked the first cell and it was formatted to 'general'. Then I selected the column, formatted to general. No problems. Now if I can just figure out the blasted bar chart issue. Later, guys! And thanks again.

What is the bar chart issue? Is your problem that 1998 is a number not a date?
