Label on Scatter Chart -- (again!) (2003)

I have searched, and have found the information about Rob Bovey's XY Chart Labeler. But our network has a regular scanner that checks for disallowed software, and it finds it. Trust me, I know!

So, I am forced to work within Excel.

I have a scatter chart, and I want to add a label to each point. Can I do this? And, can I orient the text, so it is vertical?

You could write your own VBA code to add data labels to a series. But it would be a lot of work to get it to work correctly in all circumstances, and you'd be reinventing the wheel.
So I'd try to convince your IT department that the XY Chart Labeler is a useful and indispensible bit of free software, and ask THEM to install it.

Yes, you can change the orientation of the text of data labels:
    - Click on a data label. This will select all labels for a series.
    - Select Format | Selected Data Labels...
    - Activate the Alignment tab.
    - Specify the orientation.

Ah, when one is a very small wheel in a huge bureacracy, I might get something in a year or two.

So tell your management that IT is making it impossible to do your work properly... <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

If you want an ad hoc solution for a particular chart, please attach a sanitized copy of the workbook.

I don't think you have to install the addin. You can download it and when you need to run the macros, just open the file like you would any XL file and run the macro code to do what you need to do...

[FYI, Our IT department prevents us from installing programs, but I can and have installed this addin without any issues]
