chart values of numbers and letters (Excel 202/2003)

We are charting lab results where certain values from the lab are represented by a letter (B, U, J, etc.) which indicate a non-detection of the chemical tested. We are charting the detection amounts from the lab over time. The numeric information plots as expected, but where the detected amount is a letter we want the letter to display on the chart where the non-detect value would be. There is currently a number associated with the non-detect amount for each chemical that plots on the chart, but we want the letter to automatically display near that dot on the chart.

We have several charts to graph with several chemicals to plot on each chart. It would be great to have the letter code plot with the numeric values. Any ideas?

You could display data labels. Rob Bovey's free XY Chart Labeler utility makes it easy to link data labels to a range.

Hans, as usual, you are great!

The XY Chart Labeler was exactly what we needed. Thank you.
