    Extend select (Excel 2007)

I've just started using Excel 2007. Sometimes when I'm moving around the spreadsheet, it appears an "extend select" is activated. So if I click in one cell, four cells will be selected. It is driving me crazy! How do I turn this off!?

Do you see EXT in the status bar? If so, you probably pressed F8 by accident; this activates Extend mode. Press F8 or Esc to turn it off.

No. Even if I press F8, I don't see EXT in the status bar. I closed the document and reopened it. Now if I click in Cell C16 for example, both C16 and D16 are selected. (before I closed it, it was many cells!)

    Re: Extend select (Excel 2007)

One of my usual crimes is accidentally to push down on the wheel of my wheel mouse then release it. Under certain circumstances, Excel responds to that as though the F8 key was pressed. Is that what is happening in your case?
