I was aware of that, but that's just too cumbersome (and too complicated for my colleagues...).

Now I've had some more coffee, I realise that I never mentioned the Alt + numerical_keypad method entering international characters.

Other than using Character Map, there are shortcuts that can be used in Word - possibly elsewhere, I haven't checked.
The following is a list I found some time ago - I'm afraid I can't give due credit.

In addition, all Windows have a utility called Character Map (charmap.exe). In Windows 2k it's in system32 folder. Click Start | Run and type CHARMAP, and you will see all characters available.

I was aware of that, but that's just too cumbersome if you have a lot of diacritics to type (I used to work for a Swedish company - it seems that every other name used them...).
    Thanks for your reply, though.

I am using the US-International keyboard setting and that does exactly what you want.

Although I don't sit in front of a W2K system, I trust the procedure should be the same. In control panel goto Keyboard, Language, Properties, choose keyboard layout. Pick US-international. Ok,Ok,Oke?

I know how to change the keyboard. However, I never realized that the international keyboard would do what I needed - thanks (it's working)!
