Remove section breaks problem (Word 2003)

If you remove a section break, the headers and footers in the previous section become the headers and footers from the next section. What I need is that they stay unchanged and the next section's headers and footers become the same as the previous section.

To give some more information, I need to create documents mostly portrait layout. Occasionally I need landscape and I have a macro the repositions all the headers and footers. Sometimes though I need to change that landscape page back to portrait. One option is to write a macro that removes the section break and repositions things as required. I am just hoping that there is a simpler way.
