Any news on old Lounge archives?

Happy New Year, everybody.

Eileen, is there any news (or hope) on the old Lounge archives front. Was the AWOL hard drive ever tracked down?

PS: this new Lounge is really nice. Hopefully most of the users from the old one will come trickling back...

Gary

Nobody has heard a peep out of Ken for weeks! Maybe we'll get 'em back; maybe we won't...

Re: Any news on old Lounge archives?

Yeah, I figure the longer they're gone, the slimmer the chances...

I briefly had this idea that we could harvest old lounge postings from the temporary internet files on everyone's computers (if that can even been done), have everybody send them in to one location, sort them all and rebuild some pieces of the old lounge that way. But too much time has elapsed - at least on my PC those temp files are gone...

My next bright (obsessive?) idea relates to all those hard copies of interesting threads I printed out in the past (to read on the train) (and which I never threw out 'cause I'm a "keeper") - I think I've got a "best of Robin Trew" collection right there. Of course they're in hard copy (wouldn't love typing them or proofing a scan of 'em).

Anyway, if the old lounge files do prove to be gone forever, maybe we can encourage folks to post "Best Of the Old Lounge Posts" resurrected from hard copy, e-copy, whatever. Just a(n obsessive) thought.....

Glad to hear I'm not the only freak who printed out (and still does) the threads I liked...yes, I even have a binder for them.
A "Best of the Old Lounge" sounds like a great idea...hopefully we'll find more like us, as well as some of the "most wanted" from back in the day.
have fun

They'd be even more useful to me if you had them stored on disk, then you could send them to me and I could incorporate them.

Re: Any news on old Lounge archives?

That's the prob... they're only hard copy.
Could scan them but don't know how well VBA code would make it through.
I was thinking maybe once a week I could sit down and type a page and post to the appropriate forum as a BOOL (Best of Old Lounge) - don't need the whole thread necessarily, just the solution.
If we got a number of folks doing this, a lot of useful stuff could be restored that way.

PS: Eileen, how many posts to become a "User"?

Okay, now I'm on the spot to actually do it!
Do you think these should get posted into the relevant individual forum, rather than a general BOOL? (I'm thinking so...)

[I was up to about 500 posts on the ol' Lounge, what would that rate here? (Actually, some of us are wondering whatever happened to Woody's plans to make up some new MVPs)]

Probably a general BOOL Board would actually be best - then it would be easy to search and YOU could be the Moderator. You could vet all posts to make sure they were OK before you made them visible. How would that grab ya?

I can't even remember who all the old MVPs were let alone figure out who should be made new ones...

That would be a great idea except outside of the Word (and maybe VB/VBA) boards I wouldn't be a knowledgeable moderator. You'd need to have an Access-qualified moderator, and one for Excel, Outlook etc etc.

By posting Bool's to the individual boards, we can 'look after our own'. (And neither would you want to have to set up a whole bunch of moderators for all the different boards either.)

I don't think there would be a flood of these postings anyway since it's going to take some elbow (knuckle) grease to get them typed up, proofed etc. But even if there were, that's probably a good thing - get all that info back up (and searchable) onto this forum.

Whaddya think?

[As for MVPs, that was a dig at Woody, not you...

Re: Any news on old Lounge archives?

OK, you make good points.
Let's establish that all posts of this nature be prefaced "(BOOL)" in the Subject so we can distinguish them easily. I should also put out an APB (with guidelines) on the Announcements Board...

Re: Any news on old Lounge archives?

That's a very generous offer. If you (and others) do this, I'll make a 'BOOL (Best of Old Lounge)' board to put them in.

25 posts makes you a User.
