Positive to negative number (Excel 2003)

Is there a simple way to make a column of positive numbers into their negative counterpart? Custom formatting doesn't seem to work. I need it to reflect in a horizontal bar graph that it is negative, to the left of zero. Thanks

    Select a blank cell.
    Enter -1 in the cell.
    Copy the cell (Ctrl+C).
Select the range of cells that you want to change to negative.
    Select Edit | Paste Special...
    Select the Multiply option.
    Click OK.
You can now clear the cell in which you entered -1.
