Can't find field - Mail merge with Contacts (Office XP - Outlook 2003)

    Hi gang,
I am preparing a mail merge with "if" fields that will display a different result based on the contact's sex. The sex field is filled in every contact. As soon as I link the Word doc to the contact sub-folder I get an error message saying Word can't find the sex field, hence calculation error.
If I export the contacts to Excel you can clearly see a sex field.
How do I tell Word where it is?
    tks

This problem occurs if you initiate the mail merge from Word. If you initiate it from Outlook , all fields, including Sex, will be available.
To start a mail merge from Outlook, open the (sub)folder with the contacts that you want to use, then select Tools | Mail Merge...
