    File name field (2007 SP1)

    I've got a 2000/3 Word form (set up as a template) that has the file name & path field in the header.

    What I'd like is for the field to automatically update on open.

    NB attached is an example.

    Re: File name field (2007 SP1)

    You need VBA code to update the field; this requires the users to enable macros.

    Place the following code in the ThisDocument module of the template:

    Private Sub Document_Open()
    Application.ScreenUpdating = False
    ActiveDocument.PrintPreview
    ActiveDocument.ClosePrintPreview
    Application.ScreenUpdating = True
    End Sub

    See The FILENAME field does not automatically update when you open a document in Word for an alternative.

    Cheers mate, I knew you'd come through.

    Does seem a bit odd to have an auto (sort of) field that isn't automatic though. Ho humm

    The Filename field updated automatically in Word 2000 and before, but this was changed in Word 2002. Such is progress...
