    2007 Pivot sheets Lost (2007 SP3)

I have an issue with some Pivot Tables in 2007/2003 Compatible workbooks.
This appears to happen when opened in either 2003 or 2007.

The Pivot tables are fine and working.
Then when the file is opened in 2007 suddenly they are no longer Pivot tables,
and as far as I can see cannot be converted back without a total rebuild.

Anyone throw a light on what causes this and therefore how to stop it.

In one spreadsheet it happens to 3 of the 5 pivot tables on a regular basis.

    Many thanks
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

There's no SP3 for Excel 2007, so I assume the SP3 reference is to Excel 2003. Have you installed SP1 for Excel 2007?

    Absolutely correct.

    Re: SP1 for 2007 , yes I have.

It's not just my PC that it happens on.
I am suspecting it might be something to do with the version the original pivot table is built in,
    but maybe not.

I tried to google it but cannot find any references.
    Maybe my search is wrong

I haven't come across any mentions of this anywhere - is there anything particular about these 3 pivot tables: OLAP based, calculated fields etc? Can you post a stripped down sample that breaks and describe the steps that cause it to break.

    Re: 2007 Pivot sheets Lost (2007 SP1)

Unfortunately not because they are property of a client.
I do not know the original steps used to create, just the behavior.
They work ok, and are always saved as Excel 2003 compatible mode.
(I think it would be best if they just saved them as 2007 to check).
Then you close them and open them up againb and the Pivot tables are no longer Pivot table but a set of Static values.
I have experienced thjis myself on one of their machines.

Opened the file used the Pivot table.
Saved it (checking it was saving in compatibility mode).
Re-opened the file and the Pivot tables are no longer there but have been converted to values.
Have no idea what the cause is, but it is very odd.
I have never experienced it on my own equipment.

    Re: 2007 Pivot sheets Lost (2007 SP3)

So if you open them in 2007 they work fine, but if you save from 2007 and re-open them the PT's are lost?

What happens if you save as 2007 file?

I suspect they will be OK, but at present they need to be in Compatible format because NOT all users are upgraded to 2007.
I will try it out and check over a week or two

You do know there is the Office 2007 compatibility pack your 2003 users can download and install?
