    grouping (MSOffice 2000/Word)

I am trying to add thumbnails into a manuscript. The thumbnails are to be an outline of the UK with arrows showing the location of a town or city. I have a UK outline - (jpg) and can add the arrows. However I really need to 'group' these so that as text is moved/adusted the outline and the arrow move 'as one'. My problem is I cannot group the two items. Does anyone have any thoughts please?

You should be able to group another drawing object with an image if the image is not positioned as "inline" with text. Try changing your image layout to "square" and see whether that helps.

Thanks for responding, jscher. Unfortunately I don't understand your message. Can you word it another way please or give an example of what you mean. Sorry to be dense!

Select your jpg file and then Format > Picture and go to the Layout Tab. Select Square as the layout option.

In Word. Select the jpg picture by clicking on it.

    Re: grouping (MSOffice 2000/Word)

Thanks Stuart - I've made progress and can now do what I asked in my original em. Having put in the UK outline jpg and highlighted the town or city using an ellipse/circle from Auto shapes I can add the arrow from auto shapes and group them all. Job done.
A supplementary question please? Instead of an arrow pointing to the city I'd prefer to put in the actual name of the town or city but when I try to do this using a text box or a horizontal box I can't position the words close enough to the city - the other boxes blank the words out. Any suggestions on this one please?
    Cheers

Could you please post a document so that we can see what this looks like. We don't need the whole of your document, just enough to show the graphics you are talking about.

You will see that I can't get 'Brighton' close to the circle.

Your problem is that the text box has a White fill, if you change it to no fill, then you can put it very close to the circle with no problem.

You change this with Format > Text Box, or using the Fill control from the drawing toolbar. I will post the fixed version of your document in a separate response, so I can include the graphic showing how to set No Fill in this one.
