    Windows System Error

I am continually getting the following error on my Dell notebook (Windows XP)

"There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network"

How would I start to track down the culprit?

    Re: Windows System Error

Is it your home or work network?

If it is happening at work, contact your network administrator immediately.

If it is happening at home, most likely one of the static IP addresses (usually assigned for printers) was not reserved on your DHCP server (router).
To avoid such conflict, choose static IP address at the end of the range. For example, if your server (router) assigns IP addresses between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.50 - choose the last one.
If you choose 192.168.1.3 for the printer and do not reserve it (exclude for DHCP use), your server will consider this address as "unassigned" and try to assign it to the laptop, creating a conflict.

    Re: Windows System Error

It was on my home network. I stopped getting the message, not sure why??? <img src=/S/confused3.gif border=0 alt=confused3 width=45 height=45>

I was having some problems with my home computer after the hurricane(Gustov)
and I guess there was confusion while getting it back up and running properly.

    Thanks for all the replies!
