Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP

I see Windows Script on my computer and updated to the newest version today, but I have no idea what it is.. It installed along with other things, VBScript; JScript and Windows Runtime, all version 5.7..

As just a user and not a programmer, do I need Windows Script ? Will someone explain why it's needed and if it's needed by me?

Most likely you already had WSH 5.6 and did not know it. There are many different applications that take advantage of the scripting facilities that WSH provides. You may be running something that uses scripting and not even realize it. WSH 5.7 has been around since August 2007. Since you've got it installed and it is very small I'd recommend leaving it alone.
Windows Script 5.7: Scripting News describes the release and has two links at the bottom of the page which will lead you to much more information. From Microsoft Windows 2000 Scripting Guide - WSH Overview comes:

"So then what is WSH? As the name implies, WSH is a script host. A script host is a program that provides an environment in which users can execute scripts in a variety of languages, languages that use a variety of object models to perform tasks."

The way I understand what you have written is that programs use WSH and not users. I accept that explanation and I thank you for it.

Computer users can write code which uses WScript; search the Lounge for "WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")".

    "Computer users can write code"

    Who me? <img src=/S/stupidme.gif border=0 alt=stupidme width=30 height=30> I'm not computer savvy enough to do that. I can hardly write my name let alone write code, <img src=/S/confused3.gif border=0 alt=confused3 width=45 height=45>
I have no computer training and it's much too late to start learning how now.
