    Picture / Merge (Word 2007)

I have a merge form that has a picture on each label of a label sheet. Below the picture (which is a logo) is the merge field. As the merge runs, I see the picture in the output file... briefly. Then each image change to an empty box with a red X in the upper left corner. Within the box, the name of the JPG appears. I can't get this to revert to the expected image. Option "Show picture placeholders" is not checked.

I've merged only one page of labels, so the document is surely not overburdened. I can delete each of the duds and paste in the desired image, and the document is then fine.

What is the cause of the non-pictures, and is there a way to avoid it?

Is it an embedded picture or a linked picture?
If the latter, is it the same picture for every label or should it vary with the records?

It's embedded, and it's the same picture. It's a 14k image. I don't have a similar problem with previous versions of Office. I experience this only in 2007.

Do you have a compelling reason to use Word 2007? This kind of thing works well in Word 2003 and before, as you note yourself.

Office 2007 will soon be in place for all of the users, so there's no option.

I had the image set as "in line with text". I tried "square" and that seems to resolve the problem. In line is preferable because there's less likelihood that a user will click and move, re-size or otherwise disturb the picture. In line placed the picture solidly where it should be.

No, I haven't. Do you think that might help?

    Hi Richard,

It might - it's certainly unlikely to harm your prospects.
