Arabic Transparent Font (Business)

I use Arial font a lot in Access, and I am used to be able to assign by just typing Ar in the fonts box.
My Vista computer had two Arabic fonts, that come before Arial in the alphabet, so I decided to get rid of them.

So I went to Control Panel...Fonts , where there was only 1 Arabic Font, so I deleted it.

But I still find that Access offers me Arabic Transparent as a font, even though it is not listed in the Fonts folder, and Word does not offer it.
How can I get rid of it?

(I have rejected the explanation that it is "Transparent" font, so I can't see it!)

The file name for Arabic Transparent is artro.ttf. If you switch the Fonts control panel to Details view, do you see artro.ttf?

Thanks Hans

artro.ttf is not listed in the Fonts Control Panel, and is not found with a Search.

Access 2003 seems to be the only program that offers it. Access 2007 does not.

If I use it it looks the same as Arial. I don't know what is supposed to look like.

Arabic Transparent is a Unicode font with arabic characters in the range beyond ASCII/ANSI.
Can you find a reference to Arabic Transparent in the Windows Registry?

Whether or not it is relevant - or applicable in Vista - I'm not sure, but in your registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionFontSubstitutes

do you have a substitute for Arabic Transparent?

(See http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversio...hp/t90683.html)

Thanks

The only reference to Arabic Transparent in my Registry is in the Font Substitues section.
"Arabic Transparent"="Arial"
"Arabic Transparent Bold"="Arial Bold"
"Arabic Transparent,0"="Arial,178"
"Arabic Transparent Bold,0"="Arial Bold,178"

So I just deleted them. Was that a silly thing to do?

But it did not fix the problem.

So I just download Arabic Transparent, and installed it. This made it available in other progams.
Then I deleted it again, which removed it from other programs, but not Access 2003.

It is now not to be found in the Registry.

I guess you'll have to live with it...

I think you are right.

I have to type Ari rather than just Ar, so I suppose it not much of a hardship.

Not sure - I would expect you would only get a problem if you received a file which included Arabic Transparent and without a substitute, Windows didn't know how to display it.

Do/can Access files hold embedded fonts?
Has this continued after a reboot?
Is it possible you have used Arabic Transparent when using Access 2003 and it therefore remembers it? I'd still expect there to be some mention of it in the registry though...

I have just done yet another reboot and the problem has gone away.

Thanks again for your time.
