Did you save the document when you closed it?

Yes I saved it, this has been happening a couple of times - the first time I thought I was going mad!

If you open the document and select Tools | Templates and Add-Ins..., is the check box "Automatically update document styles" ticked?

If so, that could explain the behavior that you see. Try clearing the check box, adjusting the line spacing and saving the document.

Paragraph spacing changes (Word 2003 SP2)

Subject edited by HansV to be more descriptive than just "Word"

I opened a doc to amend it - I noticed the spacing in between my outline numbered paragraphs was all wonky - I went into compatability and save buttons under options to make sure they were sitting at Microsoft Office 2003 and that the disabled button was unticked. These were all correct anyway. I ended up changing the spacing manually using format and paragraphs and changing the space. I then printed it and closed it down. On re-opening the document once more it was back to the original wonky spacing !!!

I'm afraid I don't know what would cause this behavior then. You might try Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word,197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word<!/post>.
