    Themes and 'body text' (2007)

When I point at different themes I can see that my heading 1 and subtitle styles change font, but it doesn't change the font used for 'normal' text - there isn't a 'body text' style available in the quick styles list.

Am I missing something obvious? Thanks, Andy.

The have a big effect on my machine so I think they should be changing on your machine too.

Does your normal text use the 'Normal' style? Does it have local formatting applied - select it and try Ctrl-Q and Ctrl-Space. Now try the themes again.

Another possibility is that you are looking at customised themes which didn't affect the 'Normal' style. I would have thought that this would be the first thing everyone changes but maybe not.

Hello. Thank you for your response. I'm unable to check this at the moment but will have a look later. However, I haven't changed anything and this is a 'clean' installation of Word 2007. All I did was to type a couple of paras using Heading1, Subtitle and Normal styles. Thanks again, Andy.

Hi. Still doesn't behave as I expect. I've typed some Normal text and used Ctrl-Q and Ctrl-Space to remove any customized formatting. When I point at a theme it only changes the heading/ subtitle text but not normal paragraphs.
Themes consist of heading and 'body text' fonts, but there isn't a 'body text' style to apply?! Confused .com. Andy

There is still a Body Text style. For some reason, the default install of Word 2007 hides it (yes, hides it).

Press Ctrl+Shift+S to display the Apply Styles dialog (same as previous versions of Word). Type in "Body Text" -- once it's in your document, I think it will appear in the Styles pane (not the gallery on the Ribbon -- you have to add it to the gallery).

To display the Styles pane, click the launcher button in the lower right of the Styles group on the Ribbon. In my fresh install, and in a blank new document, Body Text did not appear. There are three buttons at the bottom of the pane, click the Manage Styles button. In the dialog, you can decide which styles to view/not view, in which order they should appear, and so on.

Not sure why Microsoft hid Body Text, nor why they added unusual formatting to the default Normal style (and we thought TNR 10pt was odd...).
    Hope this helps, Kim <img src=/S/bananas.gif border=0 alt=bananas width=33 height=35>

Was unable to get back to you sooner, but thank you for your assistance.
This process seems to defeat the object of using a theme. I think I might just create my own version of normal style and add it to the quick style list. Andy.
