Edit Macros in a DOT file (Word 2K3)

I created a ".dot" file called "RNRToolsNMacros.dot" that contains some macros and toolbars I have created using advise from this forum. The problem is that I am trying to add a couple of macros to "RNRToolsNMacros.dot" but Word doesn't let me. BTW, "RNRToolsNMacros.dot" is saved in "Cocuments and SettingscangrejeroApplication DataMicrosoftWordSTARTUP. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Templates loaded from the Startup folder are not viewable or editable in the VBE without taking an additional step:

First, you have to open the file directly. Navigate Windows Explorer to your startup folder, right-click the file, and choose Open -- the default action is New, so double-clicking will not help.

Second, return to the VB editor and try to access the project. It should now display your code. Good so far?

Third, type a space and delete it and try to save the template. Does it save or give you an error such as "Read only" or "in use"?

Re: Edit Macros in a DOT file (Word 2K3)

jscher ... had to drop this for a while sooo ... here I am again! :-)

Dropped the template from "STARTUP", deleted "normal.dot", and opened Word. When I then went to "Customize", some toolbars are checked and others not; however, Word does not allow me to check or uncheck any. If I try to drag a macro to the toolbars, an "x" appears under the icon. Any ideas? Your help appreciated as always!

There is a registry key that stores various configuration information (DataSettings). This key occasionally becomes corrupted. You could try renaming it and see whether Word's normal toolbar functionality is restored. For more information, see this post: Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word.

Thanks, jscher. Tried everything to no avail. Is there any limit to the number of macros/toolbar items that can be added? Thanks again!
