    Live Scrolling? (2002)

    How can I get live scrolling to work in Word 2002?

    Live scrolling (visible page scrolling while dragging the scroll bar thumb) does not happen for me. I cannot find reference to it in Word help, in the MS knowledgebase, WOPR Lounge, or Woody's Special Edition Using Office XP.

    Woody published a registry hack for Word 97 (Galah Nuga and Chris Pirillo credited) in PC Computing June 1999. It worked great for Word 97.

    Hi Greg,

    I thought Word 2002 had live scrolling... <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>

    Anyway, I'm not sure if this is in the same place for Word 2002, but in the Registry hack for Word 97 was:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice8.0WordOpt ions

    Add a string value with the following:
    Value Name: LiveScrolling
    Value Data: 1
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Cheers! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
    Thanks for the suggestion. But, it doesn't help.
    The string LiveScrolling "1" was already in the registry, left over from my Word 97 hack.
    I'll take a crack at this, but first you've got to explain a little clearer what "live scrolling" is. I dont' follow from your explanation what exactly this is.
    When I scroll using the vertical scroll bar, the page stays visible the whole time, so I'm lost as to what you mean.
    As long as you're hacking, the setting probably belongs under Office 10.0 rather than 8.0.
    Hi Kevin,
    Actually you've just described live scrolling. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> It's when you drag the scroll box and can actually see what is scrolling by.
    In Word 97 the default is to scroll "blindly". If you drag the scroll box - you don't really know where you are until you let go! Well
    So, I've always had live scrolling, huh? The alternative does sound like a pretty weak way to go!
    I just built a new Win2000 PC and installed Office 97 and I get live scrolling by default.
    <<installed Office 97 and I get live scrolling by default>>
    Even when you drag the scroll box up/down the scrollbar? Is the live scrolling entry in your Registry?
    Re: Live Scrolling? (2002)
    When dragging the scrollbar I get a little pale yellow Page Box that tells me what page I've scrolled to. The document displays the same page while scrolling this way. When I let go of the mouse button, the destination page is then displayed.
    Our poster indicated that they see a black screen while scrolling. I see the current page.
    As for the reg entry, I'll take a look.
    Hi Kevin,
    Then you don't have live scrolling. <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15>
    I see the misunderstanding. If you don
    As my friend Gomer would say "Shazam, shazam, shazam"
    I like it. I'm going to put that in the "Firm App" so everybody gets that.
    Thanks B!
