    embed zip file (2003 word)

    hi,

it is possible but i do not know how it is done. Put a zipped file into a word document so that when you load the doc-file an save it on disk, you can also unpack the zip file without being connected. The ziipped file is completely integrated into the doc file. No paths or hyperlinks to download.
Who knows how it is done?

    Select Insert | Object...
In the Object dialog, activate the Create from File tab.
    Click Browse...
Navigate to the zip file and click Insert.
Tick the "Display as icon" check box. Do *not* tick the "Link to file" check box
    Click OK.

The zip file will be embedded in the Word document. The user can double-click its icon to open the zip file.

Re: embed zip file (2003 word)

    hi,
thanks for the reply. I encounter this message by doing so :
"The object was created in package. This application is not avaiable to open this object. Make sure the application is properly installed and that iit has not been deleted, moved or renamed."
It puzzles me as winzip was not removed and the doc file only moved to a different disk on the pc. I think it means that the zip file must be still in the same disk/folder.
Thismeans I cannot post the doc file with the included zip file on a forum as they will not be able to see the content of the zipped file.

    Any suggestions please.

It works OK on my PC.

But why don't you post the zip file itself on the forum? That would be a lot simpler for both yourself and for the people who want to open the zip file.

What if you drag and drop the file from Windows Explorer into the Word document? Wondering whether the automatic/implicit creation of an object package works any better than using the menus.
