Sharing OE folders on dual boot system (5.5)

On my dual boot machine (Me and 2k), I share the same folder/partition for various kind of file (like My Documents) with no apparent problems - so far . I would like to try sharing a common folder for Outlook Express, so that emails picked up whichever operating system I am using, will be readable the next time I boot up; but I am much less certain that this will work. Can two versions of OE share the same folder? It doesn't seem to matter for My Document, but Win2k is installed on NTFS.

Same question posted on Win2k board.

Re: Sharing OE folders on dual boot system (5.5)

Couldn't find anything specifically relating to two versions of OE using the same store folder. I already have OE on both O/S's set up to use storefolders on seperate partitions, as I frequently play around with my system and need to keep all files backed up. Can I just set both versions to use the same folder?

yes, they can. if you use newsgroups those will get messed up unless you do it "right". mail only should be fine.

Re: Sharing OE folders on dual boot system (5.5)

    I use 3 different versions of OE - Win98 (5.01) / Win2K (5.5SP2) / WinXP (6.0). All with the same 5 users' profiles on each.

One central location for the OE folders works great! The OE Folders are on a different machine. Backing up is simply a matter of a batch file using XCopy to a different machine.

The real trick, if you want to access the same folders from different OE versions and different machines is editing the registry. OE doesn't let you enter a mapped network drive for the Store Root. But entering it in the registry works.
