moving a shadow (word 2007)

When I try to move a shadow up or down or left or right, I clock on the appropriate arrow in the ribbon, but then the ribbon closes, so I have to open the ribbon again and click on it again. I often want to move it more than one click at a time and sometimes move it in different directions until it looks right. But after each click the ribbon closes and I have to click to open it again, which is a big bother. Is there any way to keep the ribbon open while I click repeatedly?

What kind of object are you putting a shadow on? The way you apply a shadow can vary according to the object you have chosen. For instance on a Shape you can view the Format Ribbon where there is a Shadow Effects frame which lets you nudge the shadow around without losing focus.

Do you mean the ribbon collapses and you only have tabs along the top?

If that's what's happening, double-click any of the tabs and the ribbon will stay open. Double-click again and they will collapse -- it's a toggle.

Yes, that's what I meant and, as you say, double clicking on the tab keeps it open while I do multiple clicks on the shadow directions. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for responding. The problem was that the tab would close down as soon as I made one click on moving the shadow on a square shape. But, as Kim suggested, double clicking on the tab keeps it open and I can click on the shadow multiple times. Thanks for your help.
